A Stunner

Earlier in the week Joanne emailed this pic of her workmate's wedding dress.

My first thought was, 'Hey, Taylor Swift!'

I think the dress is stunning; it's perfectly suitable for Fiji's weather yet gorgeous enough to be Wow.

And it has gorgeous pleats on the front that is great at creating a fuller figure which I need to balance out my full face. And my 'full face' I'm just being kind to myself; it's really quite fat.

Joanne Mar: your mission is to find out Where and How Much?

Funny story from yesterday - I had to go pee so I got up from my desk and announced to those around me that I was going to pee.  As I do.

Then into the loo I went, humming away to myself.

I thought I was alone, so I let out a big fart.

But to my horror, I heard a flush in the next stall a few secs later!!!!!!

Good thing this blog is private :o)

Wishing Well

Great news - Ant's parents have come around and confirmed we can ask for moolah for our wedding presents.

I'm quite intrigued as to what changed Mr Yam's mind for him to react from 'Don't be a smart ass' to 'Yeah, ok'.

So right now I'm looking up cute poems for our 'wishing well'.  Ideally it'll clearly mention we already have 'things' so 'thank you but no thank you' to your toaster.'

There are lots of great poems out there I've already found so that part is easy.

I also need to find a wishing well, as per Mrs Yam's request.  She wants a paper one.  I don't have a clue as to what she's talking about because I can't see how paper will hold over 200 envelopes and not rip.

Hmm, I wonder if this means we will need to provide lai see packets with our invitation.

I've seen bird cages which act as wishing wells but I'm not about to put a cage in my suitcase to take to Fiji!

slight improvement

Following yesterday's dramarama post, things have improved somewhat.

Anthony spoke with the Priest who clarified he can still marry us provided I am of a religious faith.  It doesn't matter what religion; I just need to be religious.  While I was raised in a Buddhist household, it was never forced onto us children so I don't follow it.

Mr Yam has agreed the father-of-the-bride can make a speech.  So my dad will get his 1 - 2min of fame which is good, although I've not asked him if he plans to make a speech, I assume he will want to.

When Ant makes his speech, I plan to stand up with him too and make a mini one afterwards.  Surprisingly his parents didn't object.  Now I just need to figure out what I will say!

Ant's also been decided there will be a photo slideshow presentation which Fiona will put together.  I said this wasn't ideal because we needed someone who knows me too.

So....Kevin Yuen will find himself co-presenting our slideshow with Fiona.  All photo submissions to be sent to him!

dramarama

Most of the wedding planning has been fun so far but now we're adding religion into the mix so that makes for interesting times.

The Yams' wish is that we marry in a Church, so I agreed to marrying at Sacred Heart.  They discussed it with their Tamavua Church parish who confirmed that even though I wasn't Catholic, I could still get married in a Church because Ant is.  But we had to take marriage classes together.  I was fine with this.

However a new Priest is now presiding at Sacred Heart and he has said to Mrs Yam we cannot marry there because I'm not Catholic.

Marrying in a Church? Marriage classes?  I don't mind. Convert to Catholicism? That's pushing it.

From PR to SS

This will be a non-wedding related post.

Today was an exciting day at work.

After two weeks of stressful waiting and two difficult interviews, I have been selected as the Student Support Team Leader!!

It's a career direction that I never thought I would take but I'm glad that my Area Manager and GM felt confident in my abilities enough to give me the opportunity over the many external applicants who actually have experience.

Though I've only worked there for 10months, Management has really taken notice of the hard work I put in.  So it goes to show that it does pay off!

And unfortunately I didn't buy a ticket on the tram home and got busted by inspectors.  Sucky ending to a great day.

favours revised

My workmates are so fantabulous!

They've introduced me to this Chinese website that is quite similar to ebay.  It's called taobao and everything is so cheap!!

Currently I have fallen in love with these gorgeous Asian inspired favour boxes.  They measure 5.5 x 5.5 x 9 and is a good size to hold 12 lollies per box.  Better to get a small box for a few lollies than a big box that's all air!

They're incredibly eye catching as well and is being sold at 80 Yuan each.  That equates to au$0.13c or less.  So great!!

What's not great is that the items must be couriered from China and this fee is usually double the cost of the item itself.

Initially we were going to choose plastic pillow packs - because they're clear the personalized candy would be visible so it was an instant Wow factor.  But with the above, you will get a Wow factor when you see the box, and then another Wow when you see the lollies!!

But we're changing mainly because Ant has seen what kind of favours is distributed at big Indian weddings.  And he felt plastic pillow packs were not up to par.  Naturally the Yam family has to have the best and be better than everyone.  And that is how we have come to this.

He received my couriered wedding invitation samples last Thursday - his mum liked his choice.  We are still going with mine however.

His parents are saying we should just order it online.  But my card retails at us$2.90.  For 300 cards it's about us$800 - that's a fair bit of money to be spending on Invites alone.

That's fj$1400 for invites.  Ridiculous.

Anyway so it looks like we are really going for a red/ Asian theme.  We want lots of plain red lanterns, red table runners, red favours and red invitation.

Mugs would be in heaven if this was her wedding!
